CouchPotato on Synology NAS
In this post I’d like to show you how to set up CouchPotato on your Synology NAS.
Awesome PVR for usenet and torrents. Just fill in what you want to see and CouchPotato will add it to your “want to watch”-list. Every day it will search through multiple NZBs & Torrents sites, looking for the best possible match. If available, it will download it using your favorite download software.
Let’s get started
To install CouchPotato follow the steps of the Getting Started section of this post. It shows you how to add an additional package repository to your NAS. We need that repository to install Git and Python. After installing those packages come back here and follow the instructions below.
Installing CouchPotato
Now we have to install the package called CouchPotato Custom from the SynoCommunity repository.
We chose this package over the normal CouchPotato package because this one will first download the newest CouchPotato source from GitHub and built it. The other package may install you an outdated CouchPotato version.
When clicking on Install the following dialog should appear:
In case this doesn’t work and you get this dialog instead:
Make sure the following values are set and click OK:
- master
After installation start CouchPotato. Set the configuration according to the screenshots below:

If you want to access CouchPotato over the internet enter a username and password here to protect the access. |

CouchPotato will search for torrents on the selected sites. |

Select Synology and enter your login credentials. This will allow CouchPotato to pass downloaded torrent files to DownloadStation. |

If you like to post process downloaded files you can configure the name patterns here. If you’re running XBMC/Kodi you can use the same pattern as in the screenshot. It creates a folder for each movie. For example:
The path of the folder set on the right of the From label has to be the folder where DownloadStation puts its downloaded files. You can configure this folder when you open DownloadStation, go to settings and |
Now we’re ready to go! Try searching for a movie.
The use of CouchPotato should be self explanatory. If not, check out the forum or leave a comment.
If you’d like to get notified when DownloadStation finishes a download, check out this post.
